Abstract

Las fuentes de Radiaciones Ionizantes (RI), implican un riesgo físico bien reconocido para los seres vivos, incluso a dosis muy bajas. Para evaluar el daño de las RI nos vimos en la necesidad de generar un modelo animal validado (MAV). Se seleccionó la cepa de ratón Balb/c a los fines de hacer más probable la detección de daños por RI, por sus características fisiológicas, frente a otros animales sin estas características de deficiencias genética. Así, logramos obtener un MAV aceptable con resultados aceptables de Sensibilidad y Especificidad, para dos de las técnicas usadas en nuestro laboratorio. Una vez establecido el MAV, lo enfrentamos a sustancias bioactivas naturales (SBAs), las cuales se suministraron con un preparado comercial de infusión, ad libitum una semana antes y una después del momento de su irradiación. Al mismo tiempo se utilizó como referencia interna de SBA a la vitamina C, dado sus conocidos efectos barredores (scavengers) de radicales libres (RL) producidos por los RX. Se demuestra justamente, una acción radioprotectora de la SBA de prueba en el MAV, actuando como SBAs no tóxicas y no genotóxicas. Con el suministro de SBAs, se inicia un cambio de paradigma preventivo en radioprotección, favoreciendo la eficiencia en mecanismos barredores naturales.
