Uso de humedales artificiales para el tratamiento de aguas residuales y aguas superficiales en Argentina

Abstract

En este contexto de vulnerabilidad hídrica, degradación ambiental y contaminación, es necesario poner en agenda la implementación de tecnologías económicas, de bajo mantenimiento y fácil operación (Dotro et al., 2012; Cabred et al., 2019). La emergencia de enfoques basados en tecnologías de bajo impacto, de infraestructura verde, o "soluciones basadas en la naturaleza" (SbN) permite promover una mejora en la integridad y conectividad del ecosistema manteniendo el acceso a un rango amplio de beneficios ecosistémicos que se ven desfavorecidos con otros tipos de infraestructura clásica (Tzoulas et al., 2007). En este sentido, los humedales artificiales (HA) se constituyen como una herramienta capaz de aportar a la construcción de respuestas a esta necesidad. Si bien el uso más empleado de los HA es para el tratamiento de efluentes de diversas fuentes (industrial, municipal, entre otras), Stefanakis et al. (2014) definen, según su función y propósito, dos áreas más de aplicación: HA para la creación de hábitats y HA para el control de inundaciones. Este último punto resalta la versatilidad que tiene este tipo de tecnologías con respecto a las convencionales.
