Abstract

Los califóridos son insectos que suelen utilizar materia orgánica en descomposición para alimentarse, reproducirse y/o desarrollarse. Por lo que su hallazgo en cadáveres humanos y/o animales permite que estos insectos sean de utilidad en investigaciones forenses (Centeno et al. 2004). Es importante estudiar el desarrollo de los insectos cadavéricos, ya que uno de los métodos usados en la estimación del intervalo post mortem depende de la edad de los estados de desarrollo y/o la tasa de crecimiento de los insectos (Centeno & Aballay 2014). El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar el ciclo de vida y las variaciones en el tamaño a lo largo del tiempo de los estadios inmaduros de Chrysomya megacephala y Chrysomya rufifacies (Diptera: Calliphoridae), bajo condiciones contraladas en Guatemala. Para ello, 200 huevos fueron expuestos a 26 °C, 60-70% de humedad relativa y 12:12 h Luz:Oscuridad, se realizaron observaciones desde el inicio hasta el final del ciclo de vida y se extrajeron ejemplares cada 8 h. Las horas-grados acumuladas totales fueron 276.5 para Ch. rufifacies y 304.4 para Ch. megacephala. El estado larval y el pupal fueron menos duraderos en Ch. rufifacies (148.8 h y 113.4 h, respectivamente). Para finalizar, se aportan datos de relevancia al momento de estimar el intervalo post mortem y/o la colonización de un cadáver, siendo además el primer trabajo para las especies mencionadas en entomología forense en Guatemala.
