Mantodea

Authors: del Palacio, Alejandro; Muzon, Javier;
Abstract

Mantodea, commonly known as praying mantis or tatadiós, is a group of terrestrial, hemimetabolous insects, small to large in size and cosmopolitan distribution. Despite the interest in their biology, physiology and behavior, their taxonomic and systematic knowledge is far from complete. In the Neotropical region 1/5 of the world’s richness is recorded with approximately 500 species cited. Argentina does not have specific inventories or reviews of its fauna. In this chapter, 62 species are listed for the first time for the country, grouped into 23 genera and six families; provincial records are also provided and the most important contributions to the country are compiled.
