Colecciones infinitas. Ideas de estudiantes de escuelas secundarias

Abstract

In order to investigate high school students’ conceptions about the mathematical concept of infinity with regard to basic aspects of the infinite, we analysed the answers to a written questionnaire, requested 195 students. We have used statistical multivaried methods: a Factorial Analysis of Multiple Correspondences (AFCM) and, subsequently, a Hierarchic Classification of the students according to their answer profile. Results allow us to determine five classes of students acording to their ways of answering the questionnaire. We identify these classes globally with the following ideas: possibility of obtaining infinite collections and infinity distinguished from everything; doubt and insecurity in the response; infinity associated to very numerous, with infinity is not possible and infinity contains everything.
