Repensar el latinoamericanismo: Tres intervenciones contemporáneas

Abstract

By 2018 and 2019, three critical approaches emerge that revisit the term Latin Americanism in order to interrogate and reformulate its main hypotheses and tensions. The Latin Americanism of decomposition offers a perspective that deconstructs the frameworks of regional critical tradition; the vernacular Latin Americanisms advocate for a reappraisal of the founding texts of the lineage; and the extraterritorial Latin Americanism captures the impact of migration on the critical imaginary and introduces new inflections into the study of Latin American literature. The analysis of these three approaches reflects dissatisfaction with earlier conceptual frameworks, alongside a renewed engagement with the challenges facing literary criticism in the region as it seeks to reinvent itself in response to contemporary demands. Thus, each of these Latin Americanisms carries out key operations aimed at revisiting a common past. Its examination enables the identification of foundational points of consensus and enduring questions concerning the present condition and prospective developments of Latin American literary criticism.
