Abstract

In this paper we point out the emergence of left political actors in the Paraguayan political arena between August 2008 and October 2012, within a political party system selflocated on the right of the ideological spectrum. To examine this we describe: the link between political parties and society in Paraguay, the party system in the 90s and 2000s , the historical pattern of accumulation in this country, the joints of social movements in the 2000s, the entry into the national electoral arena of the left political parties and the social movements integrated into the Frente Guasu coalition in year 2010. Furthermore, we present the case of Cotton Bollgard BT from the Monsanto Company as a test case that illustrates the political alignments during this period of time.
