Abstract

The aim of this paper is to evaluate the Self-Concept Five Factors Questionnaire (AF5) reliability and validity in argentinean adolescents, as well as exploring self-concept in rural-marginal youngsters. The sample comprises 946 subjects from 13 to 16 years old from both sexes (500 males and 446 females) who attended rural schools from marginal areas in Mendoza, Argentina. In this paper we analyze the reliability of the test and the validity of the five-factor model that the authors suggest. The internal consistency calculated through Cronbach’s Alfa shows the following reliability indexes: .83 in academic and labor self-concept, .69 in emotional dimension, .71 in physical selfconcept, .74 in social dimension (excluding items 12 and 22), .72 in family scale (excluding items 4 and 14). The factor analysis confirms the five-factor structure of AF5. Finally, we analyze the differences in self-concept according to sex and age.
