Abstract

Subarbustos sin zarcillos y anuales zarcillosas. Vástago folioso o áfi lo, glabro o cubierto por pelos rectos o uncinados. Pelos con células de paredes calcifi cadas. Tallos normalmente postrados a veces trepadora. Hojas alternas, pecioladas, sin estípulas; lámina membranácea. Zarcillos simples (foliares) o compuestos caulinares), sensibles. Infl orescencias cimosas; fl ores estaminadas en panículas o monocasios, carpeladas en monocasios o solitarias. Flores diclinas, excepcionalmente perfectas. Corola dialipétala o gamopétala. Hipanto rotáceo a tubular. Androceo con 5 estanbres alternipétalos, libres o unidos por sus fi lamentos, por sus anteras o por ambos; por lo general 4 estambres se reúnen de a pares. Estilos libres o unidos. Estigma entero, lobulado o dividido en ramas deformas variadas. Frutos pluri- a uniseminados, pixidio, pepónide, baya típica, aquenio, sámara, indehiscente o a veces con dehiscencia explosiva. Semillas generalmente comprimidas. Tegumento externo con ornamentación variable: tegumento interno papiráceo.
