Esporotricosis por Sporothrix brasiliensis

Abstract

Sporothrix brasiliensis sólo es diferenciable de las otras cuatro especies del complejo S. schenckii (S. schenckii sensu stricto, S. globosa, S. mexicana y S. luriei) mediante métodos moleculares o espectrometría de masas. Es causante de esporotricosis en gatos; en ellos se presenta como lesiones en el rostro, generalmente en la nariz (Fig. 1), producto de heridas ocurridas en peleas con gatos infectados. Al lamer las heridas infectadas pueden transferir el hongo a otras partes susceptibles del cuerpo (Fig. 2), a otros animales o a seres humanos. El tratamiento médico es complicado, lleva varios meses, no está exento de efectos adversos y puede fallar, pero en general tiene un buen pronóstico.
