Productividad total de factores a nivel empresa: producción de leche 2000-2022

Abstract

The focus of this paper is changes in factor use and productivity of a group of milk producing firms belonging to the CREA movement (Consorcios Regionales de Experimentación Agricola) in Argentina. An unbalanced panel of some 550 firms (n = 3710) covering the 2000- 2022 period is used for empirical analysis. The paper presents evidence of changes in relative prices, factor use, substitution between capital and land, and Total Factor Productivity (TFP). A TFP growth of 1.1 percent per year is found for the general sample used here. This results contrast with the 0.17 percent TFP growth found by Galetto and Gastaldi (2024) for a sample of farms more representative of the overall milk Argentine production sector. If these results are valid, CREA farms are attaining considerably higher efficiency gains than the average producer.
