Abstract

¿Qué es el dengue? Es una enfermedad causada por el virus Dengue, que se transmite a través de la picadura de los mosquitos Aedes aegypti. Hay dos formas principales de manifestación del dengue, la forma clásica y la forma severa con hemorragias y afección de distintos órganos. En una primera infección, generalmente se manifiesta la forma clásica de dengue que se presenta como un cuadro de tipo gripal que afecta a los niños mayores y a los adultos, pero rara vez causa la muerte. El período de incubación en el dengue clásico es de 5-7 días (varía de 3-14 días). En futuras infecciones, existe mayor riesgo de manifestación de las formas severas o graves de la enfermedad, que incluso pueden conducir a la persona a la muerte, resultando más grave en los niños.
