Recently, research and surveys around cultural consumption and practices have proliferated in Latin America, both from the academic field and from government spheres. However, most of them, are quantitative studies that offer an overview of a country and, in some cases, under-represent the activities of poor nations and individuals and ignore non-mercantile manifestations. In the same way, the focus of most of these works in big cities, does not attend what happens in non-metropolitan cities in terms of their cultural activities. In this context, this article aims to be a contribution to studies on offers, consumptions and cultural practices in non-metropolitan cities by researching, from a qualitative approach, the representations about the cultural activity of the residents of a medium-scale tourist city located in the Atlantic Seaboard of the province of Buenos Aires (Villa Gesell). Particularly, we will present the paradox that we have found in the representations of different local actors around the cultural activity of the city: on the one hand, the existence of actors who experience the city as a space full of cultural offer; and, on the other, representations that account for a city without cultural spaces and offers.
