The family Anthomyiidae (Diptera: Calyptratae: Muscoidea) comprises approximately 2000 species, grouped in 40 genera, which are mostly distributed in temperate and Arctic environments. They can be recognized by the presence of calyptrate developed, meron without setae, fine hairs on the ventral surface of the scutellum and by length of CuA2+A1 wing vein, which reaches the wing margin, although there are exceptions. There are very few studies on this family in Argentina, at the moment there are 32 registered species grouped in eight genera, mainly from Buenos Aires, Río Negro, and Tucumán. In this contribution the first updated identification key for the genera registered in the country is provided, as well as a list of all known species and their distribution.
