Abstract

Las poblaciones originarias que habitaron el sur del Valle Calchaquí entre los siglos V a XV después de Cristo, confeccionaron vasijas cerámicas con materiales de la zona y utilizaron las mismas en variadas actividades dentro del ámbito doméstico como cocer alimentos, servirlos y almacenarlos. Estos recipientes también se usaron en ceremonias grupales y multitudinarias, y en acciones privadas como el entierro de un miembro de la familia. Con respecto a los materiales con que se confeccionaron los objetos, estas vasijas se realizaron con arcilla de la Quebrada. A partir de los datos de las investigaciones arqueológicas se conoce que hay al menos 2 fuentes de arcillas que usaron los grupos de Cafayate, una de origen fluvial y otra lacustre. También estos estudios nos llevan a conocer el hecho de que la materia prima de la zona era de muy buena calidad por lo que alfareros de otros lugares, como de Santa María (Catamarca), recorrían cerca de ochenta kilómetros para obtener este producto de excelencia...
