Abstract

Las siguientes páginas tienen por objetivo indagar en las representaciones de la "mujer moderna" que ofrecieron las revistas de circulación masiva en las primeras décadas del siglo veinte, cuando los cambios económicos, políticos, sociales y culturales parecían cuestionar el mundo conocido. La hipótesis que lo guía es que a través de la idea de "mujer moderna" -definición de límites porosos e imprecisos- las publicaciones, por un lado, procesaron los cambios que estaba atravesando la sociedad y las mudanzas en la forma de mostrar y percibir la femineidad; por otro lado, convocaron al público femenino, en tanto lectoras, a formar parte de la modernización, a través de la identificación con algunas de las características que ofrecía dicha definición. El corpus elegido es, principalmente, El Hogar (1904) y Para Ti (1922). Si bien las publicaciones comerciales para mujeres no eran una novedad y, a comienzos de la tercera década del siglo veinte había varios materiales circulando, como Plus Ultra (1916) y La mujer y la casa (1915), estas revistas de edición semanal, contaban, para la época, con una tirada significativa.
