Abstract

El Gran Chaco de Argentina combina actualmente situaciones preocupantes y desafiantes desde el punto de vista social y ambiental. Desde el punto de vista social las provincias que componen esta región se encuentran entre las más pobres y de menor calidad de vida del país, y desde el punto de vista ambiental, los bosques del Gran Chaco presentan una de las tasas de deforestación más altas de Argentina y del mundo, asociada a la producción agrícola y ganadera intensivas. En este trabajo evaluamos como esto influye en las condiciones socio-ambientales de las comunidades originarias de la región chaqueña. Para eso se analizó los datos del censo de Población, hogares y viviendas, 2010 a escala de radio censal. Cerca del 60% de los radios con comunidades indígenas tienen un suministro de agua a partir de pozo, cisterna, agua de lluvia o arroyo, sin acceso a agua de red. Además tienen en promedio más del doble de inasistencia a escuelas y se encuentran a mayor distancia a centros de atencion primaria, hospitales y escuelas. El índice de vulnerabilidad es significativamente mayor para los radios con comunidades (valores medios de 3.19 y 1.73 para radios con y sin comunidades respectivamente). Esta situación evidencia que se necesita pensar estrategias a distintas escalas y para distintos actores (tanto privados como estatales) que aporten a la calidad de vida de las comunidades.
