Abstract

Amaicha del Valle ha formado parte de la historia del Instituto de Arqueología y Museo (IAM) desde hace casi 15 años. En un intento por realizar un relato ameno, aunque pormenorizado, de la intervención del IAM en Amaicha del Valle no podemos empezar sin hacer una breve mención a investigadores que con anterioridad a su condición de miembros del IAM, estuvieron vinculados a la arqueología del área. Nos referimos a Gabriel Platanía quien, en la década de 1980, desarrolló parte de su carrera profesional en el marco de trabajos de investigación realizados desde el Centro de Estudios de Regiones Secas (CERS) de la Universidad Nacional Santo Tomás de Aquino (UNSTA). Platanía, junto con los geólogos Miguel García Salemi y Pabrlo Durando, brindaron un corpus de información arqueológica paleoambiental que ha servido de base para el desarrollo actual de la arqueología geomorfología del área (por ejemplo, Platanía 1991).
