Biodiversidad y plantas nativas: Definiciones, percepciones y perspectivas ambientales

Abstract

Una de las grandes preocupaciones en torno al cuidado del medioambiente gira en torno a la conservación de la biodiversidad y especialmente de las especies nativas. Tal como expresa la Ley de educación ambiental integral, se considera que los ambientes naturales están sufriendo una abrupta disminución en su biodiversidad y que ello tiene consecuencias negativas para la vida al amenazar la sostenibilidad y la perdurabilidad de los ecosistemas y las culturas. Para comprender en profundidad el origen y el sentido de esta preocupación, resulta de importancia partir del concepto de ambiente analizando cómo las discusiones en torno a las relaciones sociedad-naturaleza habilitaron conceptualizaciones problemáticas sobre el mismo. En este capítulo, combinando aportes de distintas disciplinas, nos interesa específicamente recuperar definiciones académicas a través de las cuales se configura el problema de la pérdida de biodiversidad profundizando en el caso de las plantas nativas. Hacia el final, recuperamos posiciones analíticas de las ciencias sociales en torno al abordaje de las percepciones y las perspectivas ambientales que permiten considerar la forma en que distintos grupos sociales comprenden y significan los problemas del entorno. El capítulo busca resaltar el valor de la flora nativa en tanto recurso indispensable para mantener la sustentabilidad del ambiente, invitando a problematizar la relación de las sociedades con sus recursos naturales.
