Abstract

El Salitral de la Vidriera (Prov. Buenos Aires) constituye un ambiente limitante para la implantación de muchas especies debido a sus condiciones estresantes como sequía, salinidad y alta radiación. Si bien hay avances en el estudio de caracteres morfoanatómicos adaptativos a este ambiente, es muy poco lo que se conoce sobre el crecimiento de especies que lograron adaptarse al mismo. El objetivo de este trabajo es contribuir al conocimiento de ambientes salinos desde la arquitectura vegetal. Se seleccionaron y marcaron 42 individuos jóvenes de Geoffroea decorticans (Gillies ex Hook. & Arn.) Burkart (Fabaceae), especie que habita rangos salinos de entre 11 y 13 dS.m-1 de conductividad eléctrica. Se evaluó hasta el momento un ciclo de crecimiento (2014-2015), a través de muestreos periódicos, y se realizaron mediciones de longitud, diámetro y número de hojas de brotes provenientes del eje principal. La altura (m±ES) promedio de individuos marcados es de 1,1±0,04 y el diámetro basal (cm±ES) de 2,4±0,10. El incremento promedio (±ES) en longitud (cm) durante este ciclo de crecimiento fue de 3,6±1,01, el del diámetro (mm) de 0,7±0,08 y el del número de hojas de 5,3±0,87. El lento crecimiento de esta especie, reflejado en el escaso incremento de los valores en las variables estudiadas, sería parte de la estrategia de adaptación a las condiciones estresantes impuestas por el ambiente salino que habita.
