Abstract

Toda separación comprende la construcción de una frontera al promover una diferenciación que permita a la vez, crear una unidad y una otredad. Separar refiere a una estrategia que busca enfatizar, profundizar o exacerbar la idea de distancia, desencuentro o desunión, a través de dispositivos materiales o simbólicos.A continuación se presentan cuatro secciones que reparan en diferentes ideas asociadas al concepto de separación para los procesos políticos latinoamericanos de los últimos dos siglos: (1) balcanización, (2) secesionismo, (3) autonomía y (4) autodeterminación. Cada una de ellas surge en distintos contextos espacio-temporales e implica un sustento conceptual e ideológico diverso. Las dos primeras se sitúan desde la perspectiva de la unidad y priorizan su integridad, por lo que refieren a la separación como una desintegración o fragmentación no deseable. Las últimas dos propuestas se sitúan desde la mirada de los grupos o comunidades que promueven la separación, contraponiendo la idea de fragmentación con la de diversidad y coexistencia.
