Abstract

La palabra etnicidad refiere a la identidad y al sentido de pertenencia. La identidad étnica se construye y se despliega a nivel individual y colectivo, mediante emociones, acciones, ideas, símbolos y representaciones compartidas, a través de las cuales se demarca un nosotros frente a uno o varios otros. Más allá de su definición concreta y del énfasis que se ha puesto en los elementos tomados como base para estudiarla, que han ido cambiando con el desarrollo de la antropología, la etnicidad siempre supone relaciones de interacción social en las que se construyen y expresan diferencias culturales.Este capítulo se divide en cuatro secciones que revisan las formas de concebir la etnicidad en el campo de la antropología, con especial atención a la producción latinoamericana. La primera se ocupa de las miradas esencialistas para marcar, en la segunda sección, el quiebre que representó la crítica constructivista desde la década de 1960 y la apertura teórica que esta posibilitó. La tercera sección se centra en los aportes de las perspectivas marxistas y el impacto de las corrientes deconstructivistas de pensamiento social durante las décadas siguientes. Por último, la cuarta aborda la etnicidad en relación con la identificación de los movimientos indígenas contemporáneos y como legitimador de sus reclamos territoriales, políticos y patrimoniales.
