Transporte criollo

Abstract

Esta entrada propone el concepto de “transporte criollo” para referirse a los modos en que se reciben, adaptan, resignifican y transforman las tecnologías de transporte a partir del cambio de contexto resultante del viaje centro-periferia, a pesar de no ser siempre así, tal como muestran Brasil y otras periferias exportadoras de tecnología. El concepto alude a fenómenos de escala general no individuales, y, por lo tanto, deja fuera la modificación de los vehículos para adaptarlos a gustos o necesidades personales, denominada “tuneo”. Se inspira en la noción de “tecnología criolla” de David Edgerton (2007, 2010), que da cuenta de aquellas tecnologías de origen metropolitano que cobran nueva vida y usos en contextos periféricos. En la primera sección, se discute una genealogía del concepto desde la historia, la antropología y la sociología de la tecnología. La segunda sección presenta un panorama de estudios sobre la movilidad latinoamericana que explícita o implícitamente abordan transportes criollos y sus líneas principales de análisis. Hacia el final, se plantean las potencialidades del concepto para iluminar un fenómeno que está en el centro de la movilidad latinoamericana y de los proyectos de modernización en la región: la importación de tecnologías de transporte.
