Norpatagonia no convencional: Hidrocarburos y territorios redinamizados

Abstract

At the beginning of the twenty-first century, a new energy industry emerged with the development of unconventional hydrocarbons. In Argentina, the State regulates and promotes their exploitation by means of legislation, agreements, and various economic incentives. Companies respond with projects and investment for the extraction of shale gas and shale oil from Vaca Muerta. Northern Patagonia territories are affected in environmental, economic, political, and social terms. The aim of this paper is to analyze territorial transformations in Northern Patagonia associated with techno-productive changes in the Argentine hydrocarbon networks. The production of unconventional hydrocarbons in Argentina contributes towards meeting its energy needs, underpinning a sector and a transformation in which the country has been at the forefront.
