Abstract

ICTs offer many opportunities today to generate group work situations based on constructivism. The article focuses attention on the work of small groups of students in the context of virtual environments. Study participants were 109 students taught graduate courses in distance mode. Students were formed into 26 groups, each of which had a forum and a wiki. After completion of the work answered two questions in which they were asked to identify themselves qualities, attitudes or actions that would have helped or hindered the group work. The results present a system of categories that classify a variety of attitudes, actions and qualities identified by subjects as favoring either group work or as barriers to harmonious functioning. The findings highlight two points. On one hand, the importance of the operation of the groups is held from the outside by the same teaching. On the other hand, highlights some particularities technology mediated group work.
