The contingent processes such as the COVID 19 pandemic turn out to be challenges for societies in different ways; but above all, they involve situations of economic crisis that deepen social inequalities. In this context, collaboration or association alternatives are beginning to re-emerge that, based on the precept of mutual aid, offer certain facilities or benefits to face the most urgent needs. This paper aims to offer a very brief overview of the history, function and role of one of these social economy alternatives: mutuals. In this sense, we intend to begin to investigate and learn about the principles and objectives of these spaces that have a vast presence throughout local history.
