Abstract

El índice BMPS (Biological Monitoring Patagonian Streams) es el índice más apropiado para el biomonitoreo de ríos y arroyos de Patagonia. La diversidad biogeográfica de la región, es acompañada por cambios en la composición faunística de los ecosistemas lóticos de la cordillera y de la meseta, por lo tanto, se presentan adecuaciones en las escalas o juicios de valor del BMPS para poder utilizar el mismo en los diferentes ríos y arroyos de Patagonia. Se presentan dos versiones del índice BMPS, una para ríos y arroyos cordilleranos y piedemonte, de bosque, con predominio de sustratos rocosos, o ríos de mediano porte de ecotono y, otra versión, para arroyos y grandes ríos de meseta con vegetación predominante de monte o estepa.
