Las montañas que rodean el valle de Lerma (Salta)

Abstract

El valle de Lerma, donde se sitúan la capital de la provincia de Salta y otras ciudades aledañas conmenor densidad de población (Figura 1), es una depresión intermontana es decir, rodeada de montañas que alcanzan elevaciones por encima de los 3.000 m s.n.m., siendo los más altos los cerros Manzano yMalcante (con 4.358 m s.n.m. y 5.226 m s.n.m. respectivamente) ubicados hacia el oeste del valle (Figura1). Es muy común preguntarnos: ¿Cuándo se formaron y elevaron estas montañas? Para responder a ese cuestionamiento, primero hay que remontarse en el pasado geológico por varios millones de años para hablar de la formación de la cadena de Los Andes y finalmente del valle de Lerma...
