Abstract

El trabajo propone identificar las operaciones críticas de Tulio Halperin Donghi en su lectura de Facundo de Sarmiento ("Facundo y el historicismo romántico") y de Martín Fierro de José Hernández (el capítulo "Nacimiento y metamorfosis de Martín Fierro" en José Hernández y sus mundos). La hipótesis es que se trata de un método de lectura que, implementado desde la historiografía, da cuenta sin embargo de problemas tan clásicos para la crítica literaria como son los que plantean las razones de orden compositivo: razones de composición artística, poética, narrativa. En este sentido identificamos el método de lectura de Halperin como un método de ascendencia borgiana (de lo que daría cuenta su interés por precisar y analizar en los textos los mecanismos de "postulación de la realidad"), cuyos resultados entran en diálogo con la crítica que le es contemporánea (es el caso de la relación con El género gauchesco de Josefina Ludmer) y hasta pueden leerse hoy como refutación (anticipada) de lecturas clásicas posteriores (se leen así sus hipótesis sobre la verosimilitud competitiva del Facundo como una corrección anticipada de las hipótesis de Ricardo Piglia, canónicas desde los años 80, sobre el orden de la ficción en el libro de Sarmiento).
