Abstract

Side-scrapers with biggest module are formal tools manufactured by unifacial retouch removals which present a considerable size. They exceed a length of 100 mm and a width of 200 mm. Their blanks are primary flakes, thicks or very thicks, with length-width modules varying between short and very wide, and short and widest. Originally they were associated to the named “La Cienaga Basaltic Industry” located in the valley area of +orthwestern Argentina. More recently, they were defined as “big flakes with retouch” in agropastoral contexts from Puna of Catamarca after 2,000 years a.P. In general terms, it is stated for +orthwestern Argentina, in a recurrent way, the existence of a regional circulation of resources, information and knowledge. This contributed to the interaction and the combination of diverse cultural processes. In this sense, the goal of this paper is to evaluate the characteristics of the design of these artefacts and discuss its situation in a macroregional social interaction processes. It presents a technotipological analysis of side-scraper with biggest module assemblages recovered in Southern Argentinian Puna and in adyacent valley sectors.
