This article has the purpose of contributing elements to the debates about the role of derivative paradigms in the storage and organization of items in the lexicon. Based on examples from two typologically and genetically disparate languages, Spanish (Indo-European) and Wichí (Mataguayan), it is suggested that derivational paradigms contribute to the configuration of lexical connections at the same time as the type of lexical connection that is formed. by the paradigms motivate, in part, the development and permanence of said paradigms. Likewise, while the derivative paradigms are configured around two axes, one of which is the semantic category for a particular word class, this analysis also contributes to the discussions about the semantic and syntactic categories or classes.
