Abstract

En América Latina el trabajo infantil ha ganado lugar en la agenda académica y en la preocupación de las agencias de gobierno y las organizaciones sociales en los últimos 25 años. El niño trabajador es una de las figuras que articulan las preocupaciones sobre la infancia en la región, por cierto no la única, en una geografía rica en estudios sobre infancia. Se han desarrollado políticas sociales centrales que descansan sobre la idea de la prevención del trabajo infantil (las transferencias condicionadas de ingreso, sin ir más lejos) y la mayoría de los países latinoamericanos cuentan con oficinas que procuran su erradicación. Slogans que coronan los esfuerzos políticos proponen que, por ejemplo, el trabajo infantil vulnera, en todos los casos, la salud de los niños.
