Abstract

Victoria Ocampo, denostada a menudo como "extranjerizante", sería sin embargo la gran promotora de una empresa de cultura de alcance continental, que no sólo difundiría entre el público hispanoamericano los más prestigiosos autores europeos contemporáneos, sino que daría a conocer en el exterior la obra de los argentinos y de otros escritores de Latinoamérica, en un pie de igualdad con los centros hegemónicos. Desde ella, asumió decididamente su posición como mujer escritora de este continente y abrió camino a otras, proclamando el derecho no sólo al cuarto propio sino a la voz propia, que su monumental revista ayudó a expresar y a consolidar.Este trabajo analiza su paulatino viraje, desde una infancia marcada por la lengua y la cultura francesas y una juventud de búsqueda en la que tomó contacto con la obra de figuras representativas de Oriente y Occidente (Tagore y Keyserling), hasta el encuentro decisivo con Waldo Frank, quien inspiraría la fundación de SUR.
