El embarazo y la maternidad en la adolescencia

Abstract

Este capítulo, dirigido a pediatras, analiza la multiplicidad de factores que subyacen al embarazo y la maternidad en la adolescencia. Describe a qué sectores sociales afecta de manera prioritaria y cual es su impacto en términos de desigualdad y oportunidades de desarrollo psicosocial. En materia de salud, destaca los mayores riesgos de morbilidad y mortalidad materna y perinatal, los que tienen un nexo con la edad de la gestante, pero también con las condiciones de vida (por ejemplo, deficiencias nutricionales, problemas de accesibilidad a servicios de salud, etc.) de las jóvenes. El artículo cuestiona la noción de que todo embarazo en la adolescencia es un "problema" y alienta a las y los profesionales a considerar la variabilidad de situaciones (adolescentes mayores y menores, medio urbano o rural) y "contextos" (si el embarazo es producto de relaciones consentidas o de abuso sexual, si la adolescente está sola o tiene una pareja, etc.).
