Partiendo de consideraciones sobre la problemática de la estética cinematográfica y, sustentando en ello, desarrollando el concepto de expresión estética por oposición al de representación estética, se cuestiona la concepción realista en la cinematografía y, principalmente, en el nuevo cine argentino. De este modo, el artículo se articula en tres partes relacionadas: en primer lugar, la crítica a la estética realista; seguido, algunas consideraciones sobre la definición de “nuevos cines” y, finalmente, un desarrollo sobre la categoría de Nuevo Cine Argentino y sus particularidades estéticas y narrativas. Se pretende, así, un desarrollo teórico que, retomando nociones de la teoría estética, la filosofía y la sociología, realice un aporte al debate propicio para una comprensión de la cinematografía argentina producida desde mediados de los años noventa a esta parte.

Based on considerations about the complex issue of the aesthetics of film, this article critiques the realist conception of film, and specifically that of the New Argentine Cinema by proposing an aesthetics of expression that supersedes the traditional aesthetics of representation. The article includes three interrelated sections. The critique of the aesthetics of realism is followed by considerations regarding the labeling of "new cinemas." It closes with a definition of the aesthetics and diegetic particularities of the New Argentine Cinema. Therefore, it presents an interdisciplinary theoretical approach inclusive of aesthetics, philosophy and sociology, in order to arrive at an understanding of the Argentine cinema produced since the mid 1990s.
