Conocimiento simbólico e iconicidad

Abstract

En esta nota festiva quiero proponer una reinterpretación de algunos rasgos importantes del conocimiento simbólico por medio del concepto de tal como fue expuesto por Charles Sanders Peirce en el marco de su teoría de los signos. Para este fin se recurrirá a la idea de iconicidad operacional. Esto da pie a una revisión de la función subrogativa del concepto de conocimiento simbólico y ofrece una perspectiva diferente para afirmar que el núcleo de la idea de conocimiento simbólico es la obtención de conocimiento por la manipulación de signos. Desde la perspectiva de la teoría de signos, el conocimiento simbólico consiste esencialmente en operar con íconos. Así pues, se muestran los lazos estrechos que unen la idea de conocimiento simbólico, tal como fue esbozada por Leibniz, con la teoría actual de los signos (o semiótica), que tiene en la obra de Peirce una de sus bases más sólidas.
