Abstract

En octubre de 1786 Manuel Belgrano llegaba a La Coruña, enviado por su padre a estudiar leyes, junto con él muchos americanos decidieron formarse en Europa, pese a la existencia de varias universidades en la misma América hispana. En el siglo XVIII, figuraban inscriptos solo en la Universidad de Salamanca 27 criollos, 4 de ellos provenientes de Buenos Aires entre los que figuran Martín José Varnes (1766); Juan José Barón (1773); Francisco Xavier Xérica (1779) y Manuel Belgrano Pérez (1786). Sin dudas, el siglo XVIII ha sido el siglo de las experiencias pedagógicas, los intelectuales de la colonia viajaron frecuentemente llevando consigo un bagaje de ideas que se entramaron e hibridaron con las corrientes pedagógicas europeas. Basta recordar los nombres de los principales ilustrados americanos y recorrer sus biografías para darse cuenta que todos ellos, como Belgrano, tuvieron sus años de formación en los principales centros europeos y se vieron influidos por las ideas que circulaban no solo en Europa sino en “las cuatro partes del mundo” (Gruzinski, 2011)...
