El hedonismo pesimista de Hegesias

Abstract

The main subject of this paper is Hegesias´ pessimistic ethics. This thinker belonged to the Cyrenaic school that continued Aristippus of Cyrene´s hedonist philosophy. Oddly enough, Hegesias´ pessimism has often been naturalized as a necessary evolution of hedonism. I will present an alternative view of Hegesias´ doctrine as a reversal of the values that give base to Aristippus hedonism. This interpretation, as I intend to show, objects the naturalization of the pessimistic evolution of Cyrenaic hedonism.
