In the following essay, I intend to address the problem of modernity in Latin America from the perspective of letters as a “minor genre”. I will base this reading on Miguel de Unamuno’s unpublished correspondence. The choice of this object of study directly relates to the malaise that the Spanish writer experienced in relation to modernity, a discomfort that he shared with other intellectuals of the time. My analysis of the emotions present in the correspondence argues for the existence of a new vision of modernity.
