Hegemonía, dialogismo y retórica

Abstract

In this article hegemony is considered as a type of domination essentially dialogic in which the objective is the internalization of the dominant discourse by the subordinates. From this perspective, are analyzed two discursive operations that are considered keys to achieve this goal. In the first place, it is studied the way in which, through rhetorical argumentation, is arrived at conclusions favorable to domination, based on premises shared by the subordinates, while they must update generalizations that also contribute to consolidate the dominated position. Second, textual forms are considered, in particular clause complexes, whereby appreciative, affective and ethical significant meanings are interwoven in very intricate ways. And finally, are tackled the theoretical problems of incorporating a strong concept of manipulation, as an illegitimate form of rhetorical persuasion, but the need to maintain this concept with a weak sense within a theory of hegemony.
