Abstract

Abstract: Pedro José Agrelo was a lawyer and politician with active public participation in the Río de la Plata at the beginning of the 19th century. Like Belgrano and other relevant figures in the process, he had been trained as a lawyer by the Bourbon system. is meant that he had been trained as a scholar, with extensive knowledge that was not limited to the legal question, while remaining associated with the exercise of government positions. Faced with the crisis of legitimacy of the Spanish monarchical central power, these types of lawyers had to redefine themselves politically and intellectually, in order to respond to the situation presented. Both Agrelo and Belgrano supported the Revolution and promoted the consequent War of Independence. Since their formation, both were able to serve the Revolution both from their theoretical knowledge and from their government management experiences. Faced with this, this work will seek to analyze the complexity experienced by this type of lawyer, based on the reconstruction of Agrelo's career, in dialogue with Belgrano's life throughout the successive scenarios of political and legal conflict presented in the 1810s.
