Abstract

This paper reflects upon the link between the fact of being young –in terms of occupational dynamics– and the lack of stable employment in the automobile industry in Argentina during the period 2006-2016. This sectorial classification is useful as an analytical source for various labor conditions faced by the young workforce. The hypothesis offered by the article asserts that the young workforce faces various degrees of insecurity in their employment, associated with: 1) Their insertion in assignments in various labor segments; and 2) The age categories of the population. We obtained our analytical data concerning the workforce from official sources, by processing the Permanent Home Poll (EPH in Spanish) developed by the National Institute for Statistics and Censuses (INDEC). Among our principal conclusions, we find that the sectorial-situational analysis, along with the examination of historic trends, are essential for understanding the phenomenon of employment insecurity among young people.
