Relaciones bilaterales entre Uruguay e Irlanda: El tema migratorio

Abstract

This paper presents the research carried out on the history of bilateral relations between Uruguay and Ireland in a historical framework that goes from the end of the 18th century to the middle of the 20th century. However, although it is a very broad timeline, the most significant time period has been from the mid-19th century, when the Banda Oriental del Uruguay became a sovereign state, onwards. What stands out from what we have found in the primary sources is the enormous importance that Uruguayans attached to the issue of immigration and how they put enormous human and economic resources to achieve it. On the other hand, the island will try to add the southern country as an ally in international political arenas.
