Modelos de calidad de aire

Abstract

Los modelos de calidad del aire utilizan técnicas matemáticas y numéricas para simular los procesos físicos y químicos que afectan a los contaminantes del aire a medida que se dispersan y reaccionan en la atmósfera. Estos modelos, basados principalmente en datos meteorológicos e información sobre fuentes de emisión y características del terreno, están diseñados para caracterizar los contaminantes primarios que se emiten directamente a la atmósfera y, en algunos casos, contaminantes secundarios que se forman como resultado de reacciones químicas complejas dentro de la matriz. Estos modelos constituyen importantes herramientas para los sistemas de gestión de la calidad del aire porque permiten identificar las contribuciones de las fuentes y proveen resultados para el diseño de estrategias efectivas para la reducción de los contaminantes.Adicionalmente, estos modelos pueden utilizarse para predecir potenciales concentraciones de contaminantes procedentes de múltiples fuentes a fin de prevenir y mitigar impactos sobre la salud y el ambiente.
