Abstract

In Santiago del Estero, the 2019 national elections were held to elect a president and vice president, three seats for national senators, and four seats for national deputies. Just like the province of Corrientes, Santiago del Estero has a different electoral calendar to elect governor, due to the last Federal Intervention of the Province in April 2004. The elections marked: a) the victory of the presidential ticket of Frente de Todos (FdT), exceeding 70% of the votes, compared to Juntos por el Cambio (JpC), which did not reach 20%; b) the predominance of the provincial government, which was strategically divided into two lists in order to obtain all the seats for Senators and National Deputies. This article has two main sections. In the first one, the theoretical and contextual elements that explain the predominance of the provincial government will be presented; in the second one, the 2019 national elections will be described.
