El rol del Estado en las teorías del desarrollo económico

Abstract

La teoría del desarrollo económico surge a finales de la Segunda Guerra Mundial con el propósito de ayudar a los países menos avanzados -denominados "países en desarrollo"- a alcanzar objetivos de desarrollo. En el contexto de reconstrucción de posguerra, los países vencedores se preparaban para crear las instituciones y políticas económicas que permitieran un adecuado funcionamiento del sistema económico mundial. El principal impacto buscado era evitar las recurrentes crisis económicas y garantizar que las necesidades básicas de la población pudieran ser satisfechas. Más de medio siglo después, las teorías han evolucionado y han variado los ejes sobre los que discurren. Si bien existen tradiciones teóricas que lo creen prescindible, en la mayoría de las corrientes el Estado ha sido considerado central para el proceso de orientación y planificación del desarrollo. En este contexto, el objetivo del presente trabajo es revisar el rol que ha ocupado el Estado en la teoría del desarrollo económico desde sus orígenes hasta la actualidad. El ensayo está organizado de acuerdo con una revisión cronológica de la literatura.
