Socialismo y prensa en la Argentina: La Vanguardia (1894-1919)

Abstract

En el presente trabajo, repaso algunos rasgos salientes de la historia del periódico socialista La Vanguardia en sus primeros 25 años de existencia, destacando su lugar en el contexto social y político de la Argentina del período. El trabajo se abre con algunas breves referencias a las circunstancias de su fundación en 1894, donde me detengo en las continuidades y rupturas de LV respecto a la prensa obrera y socialista de fines del siglo XIX. En la segunda parte me concentro en la década de 1910, cuando se puso en marcha un importante proceso de transformación material y organizativa del periódico, mediante el cual sus animadores pretendieron competir de igual a igual con los grandes diarios locales. En tanto alteraba los modos de intervención del PS en la sociedad y en la política argentinas, esta transformación no estuvo exenta de polémicas en las filas partidarias, poniendo en evidencia distintas representaciones sobre el papel de LV en la política socialista, así como su rolcomo factor de poder al interior del partido, tal como se analiza en la tercera y última parte del trabajo.
