La Ley nacional 26.141 (más conocida como Ley Caprina) procura la recuperación, el fomento y el desarrollo de la actividad caprina. Sancionada y promulgada en el año 2006, consiste en una política nacional, aunque de incidencia provincial y local, que surgió desde Patagonia Norte y que toma como antecedente a la Ley Ovina. Pero, a diferencia de ésta, fue impulsada por organizaciones de criancerosque poseen un perfil campesino.
