Abstract

La Paleopedología pre-Cuaternaria (>2,58 Ma) se ha expandido notablemente en los últimos 15 años debido a su efectividad para descifrar incertidumbres geológicas de diverso carácter (e.g. paleoclima, estratigrafía,paleopaisaje vinculado al bioma). La translocación, biorreciclaje y transformación de los materiales que ocurre en suelos es también aplicable a paleosuelos (Buol et al., 2011). En un sentido paleobiológico, los paleosuelosconstituyen el registro de ecosistemas fósiles; y por otro lado como ambientes preservacionales de diferentes fósiles (Retallack, 2001). El reconocimiento y tipificación de sus propiedades se ha vuelto más riguroso, accesible y objetivo, permitiendo explotar la utilidad de las características que presentan tanto paleosuelos individuales como sucesiones continentales dominadas por ellos. Con todo, son aun necesarios más esfuerzos para que los geólogos se familiaricen con el lenguaje y sus atributos, y sepan reconocer y aprovecharsus factores de formación.
