In the present work the work of the Argentinean composer Atahualpa Yupanqui is analyzed during his communist period (1945-1953), focusing on the modifications that the author's folklore introduces with respect to the hegemonic themes of the genre at the time, especially with regard to the representations of the popular and the indigenous. We consider the way in which a very general and never explicit Marxism acts in the works of the author, representing a broader 'poor' subject than the peasants and indigenous people themselves and enabling their cultural productions to operate as mediators between these sectors and a Marxist conception.
